RECORDING: The Sewing Circle

In Oslo, Norway, a small group of women have maintained an old tradition of sewing circles who gather explicitly to stitch burial shrouds - tachrechem. With special guest, writer Nina Boug Lichtenstein, we will learn about their journey, their labour, and the impact that the gatherings have had on the circle and their community. Yelala renews and revives the marginalised wisdom and spiritual practices of Jewish women and femme folk from antiquity to the present day. All genders, and people of all faiths and none are welcome in our circle.

Yelala is a constellation of projects led by Kohenet Yael Tischler and Kohenet Rachel Rose Reid. We are ordained by the Kohenet Hebrew Priestess Institute, which was created to renew and revive practices of Jewish women and other marginalised folk from antiquity to the present day. We weave rituals, learning experiences, song circles and retreats. Accessibility note: This event is hosted in a private venue, and there is a staircase to climb to reach the event. Sun 30 March - Rosh Chodesh Nisan (Kohenet Rachel) The Spring reveals herself, blossom opens to the blue skies. A promise of freedom is in the air. Join us for our the last Rosh Chodesh gathering before our Spring retreat. You are welcome whether or not you will be attending our in-person retreat. As the moon renews herself, so we are renewed… Join Kohenet Yael Tischler and Kohenet Rachel Rose Reid for a series of circles around the New Moon, blending song, study and reflection. All circles are held 8:00-9:15pm UK time on Zoom. We welcome Jewish folk and allies of all genders and sexualities. No specific level of knowledge is expected, and any Hebrew or Aramaic texts will be translated

Kabbalat Shabbat | Almost Every Friday | 18.15-19.30 UK time

The kabbalists (Jewish mystics) would go out into orchard and field to welcome Shabbat. Come! Convene in our online Orchard, to sing in the day of rest with chants, meditations, and wordless melodies. The gathering includes space to make prayers of healing, and to say Kaddish, the mourners' prayer. Join us from 18.15 for informal chat, or 18.30 for the start of the service. Most services are led by Kohenet Yael or Kohenet Rachel, with occasional services led by special guests and Yelala community members. No booking is required but make a free booking below to receive the zoom code.
